Hello and Welcome to the Official Web Site of
the Mark Five Monument Project.
(Up-dated 06/23/07)
Original "Jake" Monument Moving to NDSTC,
Panama City, Florida!
Alot of you have called or written asking about
your Bronze Jake, I thought now would be a good time to give
you
an insight where we are with this project.
I know a few of you have indicated that you thought we had fallen
off the planet and was no longer active, not so.
These past several months we have been through the process of
working with artists, bronze statue builders and a few other folks who
entered into the process, that seems to be over now.
We have officially formed a committee of the Institute of Diving
(IOD) which we refer to as the IOD Mark Five Monument Committee.
These members are:
Dave Sullivan (Chairman).............(850)
234-4162
Bob Barth......................................(850)
785-6249
Ed Delanoy...................................(850)
235-5230
Dave Thompson...........................(850)
234-4697
Jim
McCarthy................................(850) 271-1441
Kellard
Jansen..............................(850) 235-5264
June 12, 2007 the Committee signed a contract
with Mr. Paul Guiver the President of Diver's Gifts &
Collectables to produce the Mark Five Monument.
In addition to the monument, in an effort to raise the required
funding, the committee has decided to produce 300 18-inch certified,
serialized, limited edition, exact replica, solid bronze, statuettes of
the monument for sale. There will
only be 300....... First come first served!
The price of these statuettes will be $2,000.00 each.
They will be available for shipping around the beginning of
October, 2007. We are taking
orders now. Reservations require
payment in full and you can reserve (with payment) a specific serial
number if you wish. At the time
of this update only three numbers are presently reserved, they are
numbers 001, 007 and 021. If you
have any questions please contact any of the above listed committee
members.
The committee is still in the business of
taking donations for this effort.
However, we have come up with an
additional way of adding to the funds that are required.
We are providing "drawing" tickets at $10.00 each.
We have printed 1,000 of these tickets.
The winning ticket will be drawn either at the erecting of the
Mark Five Monument or when the 1,000th ticket is sold, which ever occurs
first. As of June, 2007, 142
tickets have been sold. For those
of you that have already purchased tickets, which were originally
"raffle" tickets for the "sitting" Jake, your tickets are now for the
above described statuette. We
will be reprinting the "drawing" tickets and stapling the corresponding
"drawing" ticket stub to your stub(s).
The statuette for this drawing is serial #001.
Now that we have arrived at the end of our
design and selection process, we will keep you better informed as to
where
we are at with this important project.
The Committee will put notices in this web site to assist in the
ever expanding information aspect of this project.
Mr Kellard Jansen has graciously volunteered to now take over the
maintenance of the web site.
Please, be patient with the Committe and the
process, we are not "professional" monument builders, however,
we
are getting there. Producing a
monument that will stand the test of time and mean something to the
viewers and contributors is not a simple task.
We want to ensure your money is being well spent for something we
will all be proud of to say, "I supported, I gave to this Monument".
The Monument Committee is intimately aware that most divers are
not artists, and most artists are not divers and we are striving for
something that will "exactly" replicate what a diver would look like.
Good Lord help us all if there may be one lousy flaw in the
design! The thought of my having
to move to a small African Nation just to avoid the ridicule of a bronze
diver statue with a mistake in it leaves me cold and possibly homeless.
Dave Sullivan, Dave Thompson and Ed Delanoy, like myself, are
retired U.S. NAvy Divers.
Sullivan, Thompson and DeLanoy are working at the NDSTC (the school) and
will be the driving force at getting your statue where it needs to be.
Most of the future correspondence that you get will be from them.
PLEASE.........help spread the word on this
project. The sooner we sell the
300 statuettes, the sooner the Mark
Five
Monument will be erected.
Additionally, and very importantly, Mr. Guiver additionally will have
information and photographs on his web site http://www.diversgifts.com.
