Our Mission

ns MISSION STATEMENT ns

ns The Mark V Monument Project Scholarship Program ns

“The Mark V Monument Project” originally undertook the mission to obtain the necessary Navy approval and private funding to fabricate and erect a ten foot tall bronze/granite JAKE monument at the entrance to the Naval Diving and Salvage Training Center in Panama City, Florida. JAKE was designed to stand on a granite base with each side of the pentagonal shape displaying a bronze seal of one of the five services of the U.S. Military. This monument would be formally dedicated to all U.S. Military diver graduates, past, present and future of all of the U.S. Navy Diving Schools who go down in the sea to work. This monument would celebrate forever the traditions of divers around the world who have given their life’s work to underwater ships husbandry, underwater construction, salvage of ships lost at sea, combat, and clandestine missions.

This mission is now complete! JAKE was fabricated, erected, gifted to the United States Navy, and formally dedicated to U.S. Military diver graduates on October 26, 2012.  Now that the JAKE mission is complete, the Mark V Monument Project Inc. has transitioned to a new order of business.

A college education has been demonstrated to be a significant cornerstone for achieving a successful career in any field. Those who have not had the opportunity to earn a college degree often do not have the opportunity to be all they otherwise could have been. The most significant reason that many of our Brother’s children do not have the opportunity to earn a college degree is today’s high cost of college education. Military Divers are among the hardest working people that willingly labor at one of the highest risk and toughest jobs in country. They generally do not earn enough to bear the high cost of college education for their children without some kind of financial assistance. The children of many Military Divers these days aspire to higher education but cannot afford or qualify for student loans at the increasing interest rates.

With the recent successful completion of its original mission, The Mark V Monument Project will now take on a new mission to generate funds that will provide scholarship assistance to the children and grandchildren of U.S Military Divers.  We are excited to now focus on this new mission and are grateful for the donations and volunteer efforts that enable us to operate toward success with this new and worthy mission.
